Hankering for Yarn

Wedding Veils

by Chloe on May 24th, 2006

Tis the seaon… although if you want to wear a hand-knitted veil on your wedding day, you probably should have started a year ago!

I think the most beautiful hand-knitted wedding veils I’ve found are Shetland knitting. These are spectacular works of art, taking upwards of hundreds of hours to complete (depending on the yarn & stitches) Boy, wouldn’t that be a heirloom piece to pass down the generations?
I’ve found a wonderful website called the “Shetlands Museum“. If you type ‘wedding veils’ into their search engine it will take you to this page. They have over 70 different archival photos of hand-knitted veils. Some of the photos in particular are just amazing, take a look at this one, this one, or this one!
I think I may need to start one of these now - wouldn’t it be amazing to walk down the aisle wearing that?

Yes, a handmade veil is a wonderful thing. I know, since I had a beautiful crocheted veil made by your mom that I wore for my wedding. It was amazing to wear it and to have that connection - even though my wedding was half a world away. So I agree that a veil to pass down through the generations would be fabulous!

Oh wow. That wedding veil might have gone really nicely with my dress. Maybe with some added crystal beads for sparkle though. :D
