Weaving on a spoolknitter:2
This tutorial is Noreen Crone-Findlay’s original design, and is copyright. Please share the link to it, but not the text or photos. Thanks!
In my previous post, I showed how to do the continuous rib stitch weave on the spoolie.
In this post, I’ll show how to do good old ‘over, under’ weaving.
This is a continuous weave, so it needs to be done on a spoolie with an odd number of pegs.
I am showing it on my MIGHTY MAMMA spoolies(click)
but, the SYNCHRONICITY SISTERS Spoolies (click)
work beautifully, too, just on a smaller scale.
Take the yarn around one peg on one side of the spoolie and another one that is across from it. Tie a knot.

Take it back across the spoolie, go past the next peg, then across to the next peg.

Repeat until all but the last peg has a loop on it,

then go around it and take the yarn to the center of the spoolie.

Cut the yarn about 2 yards from the center of the spoolie, and either take it through a darning needle or wrap it on a small shuttle.
- (The shuttle in the picture is copper, and is made by my almost son-in-law who is in the process of protyping them and will be selling them soon. I am beta testing for them, and really REALLY like them).
Take the yarn down through the center of the spoolie (across from the last peg), and come back up in the same space as the last peg.

Now, go under one ‘petal’and over the next…..

continue over and undering (because you are working with an odd number of pegs, this will give you a continuous, very satisfying weave!) until you have woven all the way to the pegs.

Join the yarn, and spoolknit as usual!
If you want to use the woven circle as a motif, cast off after 2 rounds of knitting. If you want to carry on to make a bag or pouch or body of a doll or toy, just carry on, merrily spoolknitting away~!
Happy spoolknitting and happy weaving!
blessings
Noreen
