Hankering for Yarn

Twisted cord belt loops

by Noreen on May 7th, 2007

This morning, I asked Jim to lend me a hand…..

He graciously stopped what he was working on and ambled into the studio.

I clamped my bobbin winder (aka, old drill) to the desk in Jim’s office , and stuck a hook in the jaws. Then I made Jim stand in the studio, as far away from the drill as he could. I took 4 strands of yarn back and forth from the drill to Jim’s hand.

I twirled and whirled the drill like crazy, while poor old  Jim pulled back on the yarn as it started crimping up.

Why  ‘poor old Jim’?  Well…. ahem….. I forgot that I should have stuck a stick through the ends of the yarn, and

NOT

looped it over his unsuspecting fingers!kilts-7qs.jpg

OOPS! I was twirling the drill like mad in his office, while he was out in the studio, with his fingers getting squeezed tighter and tighter…..

‘STOP! S T O P !     S T O P ! ! ! ! ! !”

‘Not yet, Hon, we need it to get really twisted….’  (spin, spin, spin)

AAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!

I popped my head around the corner, and there was Jim, with his face turning purple  and his fingers turning blue, while still nobly keeping tension on the cord.   YIKES!

and oops oops oops….

Ahem.    Note to self:  Remember! put stick in end of yarn when making twisted cord!

Bless his heart! what a good natured sweetheart!

Anyhow, we finally ended up with a fine bunch of twisted cord  (and the blood returned to Jim’s fingers - thank heavens! You don’t want to mess with the fingers  of a jazz musician!)

And, then, I measured and anchor stitched ten  7 inch lengths to make the belt loops for the kilts (that I am making for our son’s wedding):

I’ve got 5 of them  pinned into the waistband of the first kilt, which is progress, indeed. Whee hee! :D

hugs all round,
