Tutorial: How to weave a placemat on the Lily Speed-o-weave loom: 4

by Noreen on January 19th, 2007

What if your loom didn’t have a shuttle with it? lily-speed-o-weave-loom-how-to-0012qs.jpg

There are options:

A three inch long dowel, pointed at the ends, and whittled out in the center works beautifully.

So do some tatting shuttles, as long as they are narrow enough to pass comfortably through the gaps between the yarns.

Working with the old Lily Speed-o-weave looms is a contemplative, meditative process, and a quietly pleasurable one! Luckily, the missing parts of the looms are usually the easiest to replace. Enjoy!

    I don’t have a website.

This Speed-o-Weave is Amazing. I’d never heard of it before and you make it look so-o-o- easy.

I’m still learning to loom knit. I have a lot of ideas and would like to be able to create them. I don’t regular knit or crochet.

    Hi Della
The Lily Speed-o-weave looms are wonderful old vintage looms. I found one of mine at a garage sale, and my sister-in-law found another one in a second hand store. I just love them. But, without instructions, they can be a little baffling, which is why I posted this tutorial.
Even if you don’t knit on needles or crochet, you can create WONDERFUL things with yarn and other looms and spoolknitters, too!

Love this sight, I just picked up a Lily speed-o-weave on ebay for only 9 bucks with shipping in that total… haven’t done anything with it yet, but your instructions will help greatly when the time finally comes to when I can make some… what kind of yarn do you you recomend for this espesially the tie off yarn?
    Thanks!

    Hi Linda
Well, thank you so much! You just made my day! I am grinning from ear to ear!

I use a wide variety of yarns and threads on the Lily Speed-0-weave loom. Have you seen the series of postings that I did about the hemp bag I made with it?

I am using it right now with silk and rayon for a wrap I am making for my son’s wedding. I just love this loom!
    Hope you’ll enjoy yours!

    Hi Noreen -

This is exactly the same as the For Love or Money Lap Weaving Looms. I have two sets of vintage plastic looms that make the same kind of placemat. I also have the smaller hexagon looms that make trivets and coasters. I was able to obtain the square sets on Ebay as well. I love using them! Now I’ll have to find the Speed-o-Weave to add to my loom stash!

    Hi Rhea
I don’t have any of the Love and Money looms, but really treasure my Lily Speed-0-Weave looms. They are great! Hope you’ll find one- I think you’ll enjoy it!
