Vintage Lily Speed-o-Weave Looms are a pleasure to work with. Often, the instructions are missing, so, I have written this tutorial to show how I make placemats with the Lily Speed-O-Weave Loom.

The technique is not really weaving. It’s actually a wrapping and knotting process. Enjoy! Lily Speed-o-looms have all kinds of creative potential!

NOTE:

Please do not reproduce these photos or instructions.

Feel free to share the Url for these instructions, but please respect the hard work that I put into making the tutorial…… and don’t copy or ’share’ the images or text.

Decide what size place mat you’d like to make.
Put the loom together (in the photos, there are 17 pegs along the long side).
Place the Lily Speed-o-loom on a table, while working, to keep the loom stable.

Tie the first color of yarn to the lower right hand side of the loom. Take the yarn around the 2 pegs twice

Take the yarn around the next 2 set of pegs, twice…..

The yarn ‘travels’ along the lower edge of the loom

You may want to change colors for the second color.

I will, to make it easier to see what’s happening.

That’s in the next posting.

:)

Are we there yet?

Nope.

hugs all round,

Noreen

Noreen, I saw a thing in Meijer this holiday season that allowed a person who doesn’t know how to knit or crochet to make a blanket or scarf. I know it looked kinda the same shape as a mat cutter, but I don’t remember much else. Do you know what this is called and if they are any good?

    Hi William
I betcha that you saw the Ultimate Knitting Machine by Bond. Here’s the url:http://www.bond-america.com/shop/cart.php?target=category&category_id=1
I don’t have one, but lots of people who do absolutely love them.
I have the Bond EmbellishKnitter and their Pocket Knitter, and LOVE them both. I design for Caron yarns, who owns Bond, and I feel a strong fondness for them, as they are truly wonderful people to work with. So, to be perfectly honest, I couldn’t say ‘no affiliations’ as I do feel great affection for them.

Yes, that was it! Okay, I almost bought my wife one for Christmas. It was that, a sewing machine or a dishwasher. The dishwasher won!

Ah, shucks, William! you are such a romantic! ROTFLOL!
Now, with all that time you are saving with having a drone was your dishes, don’t you just feel the NEED to knit a sweater, hat, or car-cozy?

Thank you for this tutorial. I have a set of the Love & Money looms, but have misplaced the instructions. I’m so grateful to have this site to refresh my memory.

Just found one of these in my moms junk sewing drawer. Now I just need a super detailed instructions for how to start anything. I can’t make the string stay on and all the tutorials I’m finding confuse me more. *sigh* I’ll figure it out one of these days.

    Hi Noreen,
I read your blog each day and enjoy it very much. I know you are a very busy person, but I was hoping you would put the Lily Speed-O-Weave square tutorial up soon, or can I purchase a copy of it? Thanks. Lynette

    Hello Lynette
    Thank you so much!
I am working my way through a series on small loom weaving right now, and once I am finished photographing, writing, editing, photoshopping and uploading those postings, I will get the work done on the tutorial for the square Lily Speed o weave loom.
:o) thanks again, and all the best!
