The joys of weaving on small looms: The humble potholder loom

I absolutely love potholder looms. They’re portable, they are a pleasure to weave on (unless you get a really wobbly, twistie plastic one that lets you down. But, a sturdy plastic one can be a great pleasure!)
They are humble, simple little looms whose creative potential is totally under estimated!

I didn’t have one as a child, so I didn’t have any pre-conceived notions about those yucky looper thingies.

Ick.

I am a dyed in the wool yarnie, so when I discovered the potholder loom in my adulthood, I had no idea that people were convinced that that was what you did with them.

I just looked at it as a cool way of making all kinds of magical and wonderful vests, bags, hats, scarves, shawls, bears, dolls, puppets, cats, rabbits, etc etc etc…..

Yep……… Potholder looms have all kinds of possibilities……

Can you weave the whole world on a potholder loom?

Yes, indeed………

after all, I did!

hugs,

    Hi Pat
I’ve written a tutorial for weaving on the Lily Speed-o-weave loom (the hexagonal version- I am still hoping to find a square one)
    Here’s the URL:

    I keep looking for:
    1) where to buy a wooden potholder loom
    2) instructions on how to weave (real weaving, not loops) on the potholder loom.
Keep coming back to your sites, but the url for how-to-weave on a potholder loom doesn’t work; also noted that you said your husband makes wooden potholder looms, but didn’t see anything about whether you sell them. I’m very interested (and love you spoolies!).
