The button jar
As a family, we are sorting and sifting through Jim’s Mum’s possessions
Some of the great treasures from Jim’s Mum’s house are ‘the button jars’ …..
There are so many memories held in the button jars…..
Buttons are such humble little things
and so much potential…………….
We’ve divided up the buttons, so daughters and grandchildren all have some of Nanna and great-grandmother’s buttons. Treasures!
Soon, I’ll post more about what I have been doing with some of the buttons. I am on over-drive, preparing for the Knit and Crochet show, so it’s challenging to find the time to photoshop the pics for my blog. eep.
:) whew……

It’s so special to have some of those buttons! I have fond memories of playing in button boxes as a child - I hope it’s something I can share with the next generation :-)

That is so _cool_. I loved playing with buttons as a child and I still love them now. I helped my younger son make a button doll for one of his high school classes (I provided the buttons and a little guidance) and his teacher wanted to _keep_ the doll. The class was something to do with making a doll/sculpture that had links to your history, so of course there were all sorts of buttons used (baby clothes, clothes from my mother, etc). He got it back because he said it was supposed to be special to _him_ not to her….

Oh my goodness! How incredibly inappropriate of her!
Hopefully, it will inspire her to do the research to make a button doll for herself. And, then, she will have a treasure that celebrates her own family history!
I am so glad that your son had the strength to say no to her. That was a real crossing of boundaries on her part.
