Barbie and knitting

This morning, a lady posted a note to one of the lists I am on, saying that there’s a new Barbie doll that’s all about knitting.
I needed to go see that!  :o)
Confession time…. when I was 10, 11 and 12, I designed and knitted clothes for my Barbie, and sold them to my classmates at […]

Inspiration:Knitting and crochet in miniature

I have a passion for miniatures.
So, to find a blog that is all about knitting and crocheting in miniature is just bliss….
It’s Buttercup Miniatures and it’s just too much fun…..

Gadget Review - Recycled cd spindles - 2

Yesterday, I posted about one way I use recycled cd spindles in the studio.
Here’s another one of the ways I use the base and spindle stand thingies from the package of cd’s:

Turn it upside down in a pretty blue bottle……
Why?
To block a hat fresh off the crochet hook or knitting needles, that’s why!
It works great!

Gadget Review - Recycled yarn and thread holder

One of my most favorite gadgets is actually a freebie.
Yup.
It’s a recycled/reclaimed thingie.

Yup. It’s the base and turnie spindlie thing that blank cd’s come on.
Why do I like these things so much?
Because, when I am warping a loom or crocheting or knitting with yarns or threads that are on cones or tubes, the cd thingie […]

Gadget Review - Kwiknit

I am a wuss. Or is that ‘woos’?
I can’t stand the thought of writing a negative review of a tool or gadget or yarn or whatever.  I think: ‘How would the person who put all kinds of energy into creating this FEEL if I said I thought it stank?’
So…. I usually only write about things […]

Organizing Crochet Hooks

On one on my email lists, people have been chatting about how they sort, store and organize their crochet hooks.
Here are a few pics of how I store mine, as well as a nifty new gadget that I really like for carting my hooks around with projects:
For quite a few years now, I have been […]

Butterfly effects in crochet

Lately, there has been a lot of attention paid to crocheted mathematical models.

I am passionate about butterflies. I am constantly designing homages to them in crochet, weaving, knitting, (see yesterday’s entry for a knitted Butterfly Bag), spool knitting, tatting, sewing, you name it. The picture above is a butterfly that is part of a […]

Knit a Butterfly bag for Mother’s Day

Last year, I designed a Butterfly bag that’s knitted  with crochet edges. It’s spring again! (finally) and time to knit something up (quickly!) for Mother’s Day…….

Don’t have any thick yarn? Easy. Grab 3 or 4 strands of  worsted weight and big fat needles and go for it!
Here’s the link to my pattern:

Neato- great gadget

My best friend just gave me the neatest little gadget.
‘DP Wip Tubes’.
‘whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?’
They’re a simple and oh so  clever gadget for adding happiness to sock knitter’s lives.
They are interlocking notched tubes that you slip over your dp needles. They  keep your sock from accidentally womitting it’s stitches.  Bliss.
Here’s a link for them: Here it is:

Hobbit socks

No, they don’t have long curly locks on them, and yes, we know that ‘real’ hobbits don’t wear socks….
these socks are a painterly homage to the 50th anniversary cover of the Hobbit
