Butterfly Effects-Update on the Crocheted Lorenz Manifold

OH!!!!! I am just delighted! After reading my posting about Hinka Osinga’s spectacular crocheted model based on the mathematics of the Butterfly Effect,  Kristi found the actual pattern for it!
I’ll never have time to do it, but I love it that now I COULD!
Here’s the pattern URL: Crocheted Mathematics of Chaos Butterfly Model   by Hinka […]

Butterfly effects in crochet

Lately, there has been a lot of attention paid to crocheted mathematical models.

I am passionate about butterflies. I am constantly designing homages to them in crochet, weaving, knitting, (see yesterday’s entry for a knitted Butterfly Bag), spool knitting, tatting, sewing, you name it. The picture above is a butterfly that is part of a […]

Tackling the Floss Mess Monster- 2

In part 1, the Floss Mess Monster was beaten into submission, leaving behind it an almost closed box of squished(but color separated) embroidery floss:

and this ’snubble’ of floss womitt:

We won’t discuss the dis-embodied little hand….

See the previous entry for an explanation of that!
Anyhow…. because I am a fanatic well meaning and never over the […]

Eco projects to celebrate Earth Day

I’ve been having a wonderful time, re-fashioning, reclaiming, re-using, recycling and eco-crafting up a storm in celebration of Earth Day.
I reclaimed part of old desk drawers to make bag handles:

and I took a broken loom and turned it into wonderful ‘eco-bracelets’:

I  have lots more eco projects up my sleeve, so stay tuned!

Eco bracelets-3

I’ve been having a wonderful time reclaiming and re-using and recycling old bits of wood from a broken loom and a broken desk.
I made bag handles from the disintegrated desk:

and ‘eco’ bracelets from the schmooshed loom:

And here’s how the open sided bracelet evolved:
I cut it out from the lower part of the little keel loom:

and […]

Eco bracelets-2

Tick tock…. Earth Day is getting closer….. eco projects abound!
Yesterday, I posted about making ‘eco bracelets’ from reclaimed wood. A small loom that I was very fond of broke, so I didn’t want to just toss it.
I’ve just finished burning the designs on the round bracelet:

and the other side:

My daughter approves!  She’s asked for […]

Eco bracelets-1

We’re getting closer and closer to Earth Day (well, actually…..
EVERY day SHOULD be Earth Day), so I’ve decided to share a few of the eco friendly things that are happening in my studio.
I love taking something that -could- be thrown away, and reclaiming it by making something else with it.
For instance….. I recently broke a […]
