Tackling the Floss Mess Monster- 2
In part 1, the Floss Mess Monster was beaten into submission, leaving behind it an almost closed box of squished(but color separated) embroidery floss:
and this ’snubble’ of floss womitt:
We won’t discuss the dis-embodied little hand….
See the previous entry for an explanation of that!
Anyhow…. because I am a fanatic well meaning and never over the top about Earthkeeping, I just couldn’t THROW away the clump of Floss Monster ‘Leavings’, right? right.
I actually DID put it in the studio trash pail, for about 14 seconds before I dived in and hauled it out!
So, work with me on this….
What do you do with a pile of tanglie floss mess?
Here’s a short list of what I came up with:
1] Give it to fiber artist daughter to make the neato ‘thread sandwiches’ (yarns and threads layered between water soluble stuff, and then stitch like crazy with sewing machine to create neat fabric):
Daughter is also downsizing…. said ‘Not now, thanks’
2 ] Send to best friend for Saori Weaving:
Best friend said: Yarn dolls!
3] Actually, I had that on my list, too…. I am really into making teeeeeeeeeeeeeeny Hope (antidote to Worry) Dolls, and have several new ideas in mind for those, so stay tuned for them…
okay… back to the list of what to do with Floss Mess:
4] Well, okay, let’s not forget Worry dolls, after all…. I just posted about them!
5] how about crocheting or weaving tiny multicolored Comfort bears!
6] speaking of crochet, freeform would be a good
7] and friendship bracelets
8] and bookmarks
9] and bindings for handmade books and journals
10] and how about snipping the floss mess up and spinning it in with fleece to make one of a kind yarn?
11] Ah- doll hair!
12] Hmmmmm…. there’s always giving it to school kids for crafts
13] and WORKSHOPS!
14] and amulet bags
15] make butterflies with it
16] Finger puppets!
Okay… I am pleased with the ‘recycling, reclaiming, re-using it’ list so far………. have you got any suggestions for creatively transforming the floss mess?

Pick up hollow plastic Christmas ornaments, (they come in two parts) stuff them full of some of the floss, click the two sides together and you have a unusual ornament.

You could use it to stuff small bears or strew it in the wool when wet felting — gives very neat wrinkly effects.

:o) thanks! Great ideas, Juliann!
And, I got totally inspired today…. and an unexpected thing has happened ….. a whole story is starting to unfold. It’s too much fun! I’ve taken a heap of photos and am working on them now.
I’m just working on getting them posted.
