Spoolknitting Hints & Tips: How to spoolknit a simple butterfly
I am dreaming of springtime….. flowers……… and butterflies………

We are still in deep mid winter, although the days are getting noticealby longer. I am tatting butterflies, and crocheting them, and spoolknitting them, too…..

These butterflies can be made with a 2 peg, 3 peg, 4 peg, 5 peg or more spoolie! The finished size of the butterfly will be determined by the thickness of the yarn that you use, and the size of the spoolknitter.
Here’s how:

Spoolknit 2 cords: The Wing cord needs to be 4 times as long as the body cord.

Tie the wing cord in a knot, then tie a knot around the middle to make a figure 8.

Pinch a waist, and tie around it to shape the upper and lower wings:

Now, fold one end of the body cord over, to shape the head, and tie a knot at the neck:

Lay the body on the wings, and tie the neck and the ends in a knot.
Stitch the body to the wings, wrapping around the waist. Weave in the ends and trim.

Poifeck for freeform, or embellishment, or stitch a pin on the back and wear it as a pin, or use it on a zipper or cellphone…

Happy spooling, and here’s to springtime and butterflies!

Woo-hoo! My very first butterfly almost looks like a butterfly!
The body is too big for its poor little wings, but the next one will be better.

I love this butterfly! How adorable! I came here from the “Easiest Ever Knitted Fairy Doll” page and I like both. :-) Thanks for all the work you do; you’re so generous to share your talents with us!
