Spring! oh, spring!

Finally! Spring is sprunging!

I need to celebrate Springtime!

How better than with a Springie Rabbit?

When I designed the Spool knitted Kitty Bookmark 

I saw that I could use it as a starting point for a Rabbit….

and so: Here’s to springtime!

Spool Knitted Springtime Rabbit Pin

When I decided to make the Spool knitted rabbit pin,        I started by making a new Rabbit Spool Knitter.

It’s a 5 peg spool knitter.

For the yarn, I chose silk that I had spun last summer.

First Ear: Working on 2 pegs, spool knit a total of 12 stitches.  Cut the yarn. Leave the stitches on the pegs.

Second Ear: Working on the 2 pegs next to the  first ear, work a total of 12 stitches ( 6 rows of 2 stitches).

Now, wrap an ‘e’ stitch around the empty peg,

and spool knit the 2 stitches of the first ear.

Spool knit back across all 5 stitches.

Work back and forth, forming a flat piece, not a round cord.

Spool knit a flat piece that is 2 inches (5 cm) long.

Lift the stitches off the pegs onto a darning needle.

Fold the last edge up to the base of the ears.

Stitch the sides and upper edge closed.

ARMS AND LEGS: refer to the spool knitted kitty bookmark instructions.  Make long loop stitches, then put a dab on the loop and twist to shape arms and legs.

Stitch 2 seed beads on for eyes.

Embroider a pink ‘X’ for the  nose and mouth.

Embroider pink lines in the ears.

Stitch 3 short pieces of crochet cotton for whiskers.

Put a dab of glue at the base of the whiskers.

Stitch a pin to the back of the Rabbit

and enjoy springtime!
