Spool Knitted Necklace
Here’s the finished sample project I made using the spool knitter from yesterday’s post. As with all my designs, this is my copyright.
I used a metallic blended yarn to make the spool-knitted cord and two different types of seed beads. To make this necklace, spool knit a cord long enough to comfortably fit around your neck. Tie off the ends, but leave a 6″ tail at each end. I used one strand of a fine beading wire for each strand of beads. Cut off a piece of wire or thread approximately 8″ longer than the length of the knitted cord. Attach it at one end of the cord and start stringing beads onto the wire.
I found that it was easier to start weaving the strand of beads into the knitted cord when I had about half the wire filled with beads. Weave it in and out through the cord, working in a spiral pattern. Use a crimp bead or knot to secure the loose end of wire to the other end of the cord. Repeat with your other color of bead.
I chose a mother-of-pearl pendant, but you can use anything you want (or nothing at all!) I used a strand of the same yarn to sew the pendant to the middle of the cord. The ends are finished with bell caps and a clasp.
There are so many options out there - this is a really fast project… so why not make one necklace for every outfit?
