Spool knitted Kittycat Bookmark- Introduction
My mother once said to me that she thought that I would end up living in a cottage with 200 cats.
Um.
Thank you?
At least she was laughing when she said it.
I’m sure she meant it nicely………
Anyhow, I feel like we’re getting kinda close to that….
Here’s the story…..
We were actually down to just one cat:
She’s old. She’s grumpy. She likes dogs.
She DOES NOT LIKE OTHER CATS.
The expression on her face? Well… she’s not amused.
oh my.
Why?………. when Jim’s Mum passed away, we adopted her kitty….
Who is also elderly, and dislikes other cats.
And, by the way, she dislikes dogs too.
You can see where this is going, can’t you?
It didn’t go that well at first.
or second.
or third…..
So, almost a year later, things have started to settle down…..
Until our son and his wife moved in with us. Yay!
We love having them here. They’re great! and
2 of their cats-
GREAT!
Total sweetheart number 1
total sweetheart number 2.
AND, then there is…..
<<<<<<<<<<<<<HIMSELF>>>>>>>>>>>>
Sigh. This poor boy has been through so much.
He’s been passed around and moved way too many times. So, he doesn’t get it that he is finally with his forever people.
He’s a challenge.
Ahem.
Well…. he’s
A <! C H A L L E N G E !>
Ah, Mr. Mayhem. We are all working on finding creative ways to get him settled in, and praying for peace to unfold again. Oh my.
He ripped my face open on Saturday, after having kept us up all night Friday night…. and committed a couple of other grievous acts…….. like I said: A challenge.
(Otherwise known as a great teacher of patience and compassion…… erg.)
And so, given our sudden abundance of felininity….
I decided that I would unilaterally declare it to be
The Year of the Cat.
Enough of this ‘year of the rat’ business….
if there was a rat around, Mr. Mayhem would eat it.
So, since I had spool knitted a rat in honor of year of the rat, I had to design a spool knitted kittycat bookmark.
I made it orange in honor of Mr. Mayhem.
He’s a problem furchild, but we love him……
Ooops…. this has gone on rather longer than I intended, so I’ll just show you what the kitty bookmark looks like, and then start posting the how to tute for it!

Noreen,
I’m sorry you’re dealing with feline bedlam. The bookmark is adorable, though.
A vet once told me that it can take up to 6 months for cats to get along. In my experience, it can take much longer.
I love your Mom’s comment. My brother told me that I would have 30 cats and every newspaper printed since the 70s. I told him that I recycle my papers weekly, but I made no guarantee about the number of cats.
Good luck with Mr. Mayhem.

Hi Wendy
We’re definitely capping our cat population at five.
Um, we think…..
(you never know what the universe will have in store for you)
This is why we have always zipped off to the vet as soon as we adopt a furchild: We figure that there are so many of ‘em out there, that we’re not about to add to the surplus population, as Charles Dickens said.
As I write this, our Siamese is drooling into the keyboard.
And then I wonder why it gets the dithers at times.
LOL!

I don’t know if you have tried this, but Feliway is brilliant for problem cats - it chills them out beautifully :)
I love your spools, what do you make them out of?

Hi Nicola
and thank you so much! I googled on Feliway and it looks wonderful. I hope that we can get it in Canada!
We turn the spool knitters from all kinds of different woods, depending on what color I want the basic spool knitter to be.
:o) thanks again…
Noreen
