sources of inspiration
There’s a fairly common problem with artists & craftspeople, especially those who create for a living… What happens when you start feeling stale and stuck in your studio? It doesn’t even matter how many ideas you have in your head or how many notebooks you have filled with designs.
One thing that I find helps me to get out a rut is to try something completely different.
I’m trying my hand at origami right now. Okay, it has nothing to do with yarn or fiber, so why I am I posting in this blog?
Because there are so many little connections that get made when you can relax and not worry about “creating” I’ve come up with some new ways of painting on fabric and fiber by just playing around with painting origami paper.
We don’t always give ourselves permission to relax and play. But it really can be a good way to explore things that you wouldn’t try neccessarily. Think about how visiting an arboretum or museum can influence your work? What about reading a new author? Ever wanted to learn how to draw or make clay pots?
Try playing and see what happens!

You won\’t believe what I learned to do when I fell stagnant once - taxidermy. I have now saved my TX hunting family lots of money, and I learned what is truly an amazing, and fun, craft. ;)
I am sure enjoying your blog, Chloe - feel free to depart from yarn any ol time it feels right. ;)

I agree with you about the fibery connections in origami! Folding paper really puts you in touch with the source of that paper: Fiber! Thanks trees!
Origami is definitely one of life\’s simple pleasures!
Hugs, Noreen
