Small looms I love- Plastic looms 2

by Noreen on January 18th, 2008

I’m sharing a few notes about some of the small looms I love.

NOTE: There are a ton of small looms out there, and I am only going to be writing about the ones that I already own, so  if you’ve got a small loom that I don’t cover in this series, PLEASE post  a comment about it, so we can get the scoop on them! We have enquiring minds! and we want to know!

The other rule I am going to stick to for most of this series is that people must be able to buy the small looms now…. so I am going to not write about vintage looms that are hard to track down now.

I have decided to start the series  with notes about a couple of plastic looms. Part 1 was about plastic potholder looms

My next choice for fine and dandy plastic looms is the Schacht Mini loom.

The Schacht Mini is a really nice little loom.  They’ve put a lot of thought into the design and construction of this loom.

Here’s the info from their site:

This handy weaving kit includes everything you need to weave.  The Mini Loom is made of durable plastic and is easy to thread. Two shuttles, a beater and a weaving needle are included in the kit along with enough yarn to weave a project.  Complete instructions with clear line drawings provide all the necessary information for setting up the loom and weaving.  Instructions are provided for two projects.

Includes: mini loom, 2 shuttles, weaving needles, beater, 5 colors of yarn, and complete instructions.

The instruction booklet is really well done, and it is an excellent introduction to weaving.

BUT,  it’s NOT just ‘Weaving 101′…. it’s a “real” little loom, and you can do lovely weaving with it.

It’s a pleasant, well made, high quality small loom.

You may twitch at the price, but that does include 2 shuttles, a beater and a weaving needle, as well as the yarn and instruction booklet.

It’s 8 epi, (ends per inch) but you can weave finer cloth by doubling your warp strands.

Quibbles: Mine is not 8 inches wide. The loom itself is 7 1/2 inches wide and weaving width is 6.5 inches.

Thumbs up for this one.
