Sisterhood of the Travelling Crochet Hook-My friend Gwen and her new hook,Prin

by Noreen on July 24th, 2007

My dear friend, Gwen, just brought tears to my eyes with this wonderful note that she posted in the comments section. It’s so lovely and loving, I just had to copy and paste it here:

Gwen’s note:

  • Ever Since I got back home from Chain Link 2007 in Manchester, N. H., my new crochet hook/doll from the Gulliver Series© has been laying comfortably on my desk waiting to tell its story. A gift from my dear friend, Noreen, my hook has a question….what do I plan to name her?
  • Since I am the “Queen of Crochet”©, does that make the hook/doll a princess? I would like to be a little more original than that, so let me think for a while.
  • Dear Noreen gifted me the Gulliver Hook when we had lunch together.

  • A long, long time ago we had laughed at a take-off on the movie, “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.” I suggested to her that we could launch a “Sisterhood of the Traveling Hook” and she loved it. She got busy right away creating the perfect hook that would travel with crocheters and tell stories of their journeys.

  • During lunch, Noreen and I were surrounded by some very high-profile crocheter designers and we heard them talking about a Crochet Sit-In in which they had participated at the recent exhibition of the National Needlework Association. It seems there was a severe lack of crochet on display and finally, the crocheters had had enough!
  • They decided to do something about it: Refusing to be at “back of the booth” any longer, they gathered peacefully in a circle on the main floor of the trade show floor and crocheted. They were noticed and, being bi-textural, they invited any and all needle workers to join in the fun. Not knowing that crocheters are equal-opportunity stichers, some knitters who passed by were hesitant to join in, but once they did, they were glad to be among such enthusiastic fiber hounds. It doesn’t matter what the chosen medium is as long as everyone is stitching, they found out!
  • In order to keep it fun and challenging, though, crocheters want manufacturers to remember them and do more for them. We use a lot of yarn and THAT couldn’t be bad for their businesses!
  • Throughout the weekend of Chain Link, my friend “Prin” (yep, I decided to call her “Prin) stayed in my needlework bag and peeked out every so often to enjoy the loads of fiber and great accessories for crocheters in the market, tried to pick up a few new stitches and a hook or two and just generally had a great time with the many other “soul stitchers.”
  • I am eternally grateful to Noreen, my true Soul Sister; and Prin and I will report some more after our trip to Mexico in September when we visit my other Soul Stitcher, Sheila for two weeks!
  • Home Hookin’ for now,
    Gwen Blakley Kinsler

Ah! thank you so much, Gwen! big hugs to you, and to all the kindred spirits of the hoook and yarn!

hugs

Noreen

I wrote about my version of the Sisterhood (and Misterhood) of the Travelling Crochet hook several months ago…. it was a huge voyage of discovery for me!
