Shuttles- tatting and weaving

by Noreen on July 9th, 2007

In my last post, which is about  Brass and Copper Shuttles,

that my almost-son-in-law-the-keeper  :D  made as doorprizes for my workshop participants……

I neglected to mention that you can tat with these wonderful little shuttles, too!

I love tatting with Lady Hoare style tatting shuttles, and have made myself brass ones, and wooden ones:

the pic is much larger than the real shuttle.

The thing that I love about the Lady Hoare style tatting  shuttles is that they allow me to work with heavier yarns and cords, as well as thin thread.   I even tat with handspun far from perfect yarn.  (Silk or cotton, not so much with the wool, although I tat hemp yarn, and it’s great!)

I never leave home without a tatting shuttle, as tatting is just so wonderfully portable.  I tat when standing in line, waiting for whatever, and when being a passenger.

Yep. Tatting rocks.

hugs all round

Noreen! Do you ever teach tatting classes? I kept trying to teach myself from a book, and failing miserably. I could do the first loop, but that was it…..

I’m in Maryland, though. :( Any chance you’d come to Stitches East? :)

    Hello Marseille
If you can amble over to Manchester NH to the conference center on Friday afternoon, I’ll be in the ‘Stitch Doctor’ room. I’m planning on demonstrating how to tat with the Lady Hoare tatting shuttle.
Learning how to tat is a very visual thing, and is so much easier to learn in person than from a book.
I’d love to come to Stitches East, but they have never invited me, so far….. :D
