WIP - Green Suede Shawl
I love posting about my WIP. Once I have posted about them, I HAVE to finish them. I have the same weakness many knitters and crocheters have - I love to start projects. Finishing them is harder. It isn’t that I’m not proud of them, because I am. I am just so excited to work on something new.
My solution has been to have many projects going at once. That keeps the variety and interest level at a high level. On the downside, it tends to make each project a lot longer in completion time than it needs to be. I haven’t figured out a way around that yet. I’m working on it!
Anyway, I was feeling guilty about not having a crochet WIP up here and I happened to have a skein of Lion Brand Suede Yarn sitting around looking very lonely. I had purchased it to be part of my gypsy shawl (which I haven’t put up yet), and it just didn’t work. There was a pattern on the label and I thought, what the heck, I’ll just make it. It only takes three skeins and this yarn is awesome, particularly considering how inexpensive it is!
If you are interested in making this shawl, it is a great one for yourself or for a gift. It is a fast one to make. The only stitches in it are chains and half-double crochets, so it is perfect for a beginner with limited experience.
The pattern is completely mindless. It is a perfect pattern to work while watching a movie or doing something else that takes part of your attention. You can set it down at any time and pick it back up without worrying about where you are in the pattern. The close-up photo here shows the wonderful texture. The yarn, being a synthetic suede, looks and feels like a luxury yarn at a fraction of the cost. It is 100% polyester and is very easy care.
I like this pattern because it is not a huge shawl. I envision it with an all black outfit - perhaps slacks and a snug fitting top and draping over the shoulders to emphasize the textures this pattern displays. It would also be cute with a romantic look, say tied around the waist over a full floral skirt. It is perfect for a redhead, which I used to be, and the color isn’t going to work on me at all, so someone is going to get a gift.
The pattern is online, so if you have three** skeins of Lion Brand Suede, you could get started right away. If not, you can either print the pattern from the Web site or you might find a skein with the pattern on the wrapper. If you want to substitute yarns, which would be a good option if suede isn’t your type of yarn, choose one rated Bulky. My personal opinion is that the texture stands well on its own - a smooth yarn or perhaps ribbon would work well. But who knows? Perhaps a fur or fuzzy yarn would be equally attractive. With all the creative crocheters out there, I am sure that there are options I haven’t even considered, being that I now primarily knit.
This is a nice break for me and I love this shawl. I think you will too. I just wish I could keep it! *sob* Somewhere out there is someone this shawl is destined for - I just don’t know who yet. That’s kind of fun!
