Recycling Woven scraps -1
Recently, I posted about the Saori process of using scraps of weaving in appliqué.
It made me think about a scrap of weaving that’s been kicking around the studio for awhile. I cut it off a set of placemats that I wove several years ago, and couldn’t bring myself to throw it away. I thought…. oh! Why don’t I use it in appliqué?
I zig zagged the raw edge. Probably should have done that ages ago…. and threw it in the washing machine with a load of laundry. (Just to see if I could shrink it any more. I believe in abusing fabric as much as possible before I use it.)
I love butterflies, so decided to turn this scrap of weaving into a butterfly.
I cut a piece of paper that fitted the weaving, then drew the butterfly on that paper.
I had cut out a Tshirt from a piece of fabric I bought at a garage sale, so decided to build the butterfly into that Tshirt.
Time to test the satin stitch on the fabric. Drop the feed dogs and see how the fabric takes to the freewheeling satin stitching …..
Next: Stitching the butterfly shape
