Penguin Love:Woven and Crochet Penguins
Oh my!
My brother has asked me a favour….
years ago, I sewed my Dad a stuffed Penguin for Christmas. When Dad died, I brought the penguin home and sent him to my brother’s kidlets.
Well, The Penguin Is A Problem.
Ahem.
At bedtime, there is conflict about
~who gets to sleep with the penguin~
My brother sent me an IM, asking me to puhleeze consider sewing MORE penguins to restore peace at bedtime.
Now, it just so happens that I have been contemplating penguins lately.
A week or so ago, I flipped on the telly, and there was an incredible show on PBS.
It was all about the people who filmed the breeding cycle of the penguins at the south pole.
Bless their hearts.
Hanging out at the South Pole is my idea of hell.
Anyhow, I was enchanted by the penguins, and thought about the ones I’ve made over the years.
At one point in my life, I went through a big Penguin ‘thing’ and did a ton of them in wood, cloth etc, and didn’t photograph any of them!
Wait a minute! I just remembered that there is a Penguin on our dining room table.
Toss that one into casual conversation:
‘Oh, by the way, there’s a Penguin on my table…..’ :)

and, um, for that matter, there’s a cow on my table, too….

We built our table yonks ago, and it ended up in the barn for 10 years or so, which means that I have a fair bit of restoration to do on it.

To say that we have an unusual house would be a slight understatement.
Anyhow, back to Penguins.
When my brother asked me to sew more penguins for his brood, my first thought was: ‘well…….
if I need to make more penguins, I’ll be weaving them:

This little guy is from my book:
Potholder Loom Christmas Dolls:

or crocheting them:

Rosie Penguin is from my book:
Crocheted Fur and Feather Kids

So, I may be weaving and crocheting for peace at bedtime.
Sounds worthwhile to me!
Ah! I just twigged to what I’ll be making for Christmas for some wonderful little munchkins!
And, hopefully, the munchkins will march off to bed with their penguins in tow, and have sweet dreams!
hugs all round (and sweet penguin dreams to you!)
