Missing Just One Needle?

by Adelle Tilton on February 2nd, 2006

This should be filed in the box of, “Why didn’t I think of this?” This Web site is a fabulous idea and I just wish I had thought of it! I have a feeling a lot of people will make great use of this service.

Do you have a container full of knitting needles? You know the kind - the old milk pitcher, or vase? Mine is a crystal vase that once held a bouquet of roses that meant a great deal to me. This is the photo of that vase - it currently resides on the top of my desk. It is about 6 pairs short because  they are sitting in projects, and it doesn’t include the circular needles or double-pointed, but you get the idea.

The problem is that some of these needles have lost their partner. I keep them hoping the other one will turn up, and sometimes it does, but usually I never see it again. I just can’t bring myself to throw them out.

Now there is a solution for “missing needle syndrome.” TaraKnit.com is a site specializing in selling (and locating if possible) matches for your single needles. They carry single point, double point, and circular needles. There is every size, length, and material you could possibly need. These are all used needles, but considering how knitters care for their needles, I don’t see that as a problem. There is a notation with each needle that explains any imperfections so you can be confident in your purchase.

This is also a useful site if you are interested in selling, donating, or swapping needles, so if you have replaced your missing needles, you might be able to help someone else out with your extras.

Shipping is free for orders over $5.00 and TaraKnit accepts PayPal and money orders. I think this is a great find and I hope you will visit soon!
