Hankering for Yarn

Knitting bags

by Noreen on December 31st, 2007

Knitting bags are hot fashion items these days. They are also just plain useful.

I made one for my daughter for Christmas.

I made a really fun one to take to workshops last summer

I have a huge collection of knitting bags, because I have a ton of projects on the go at any given time.

A lady  on one of the lists that I am on asked the list members what were their favorite knitting bags. Great question! So, I grabbed a few of my faves and snapped a pic:

I included the million year old metal picnic basket because it’s a great way of storing yarn and projects.  While I was gathering up knitting bags, I was pleased to find a missing sock! Yay!

For me, knitting bags need to be able to carry a variety of things: Small loom weaving, spool knitting, crochet hooks, darning needles, scissors, notebooks, sketchbooks, pens, travelling tea cup, etc as well as the yarn.

What’s your favorite style of knitting/crochet/spool knitting/small loom weaving/tatting bag?

Apart from the reuseable and ubiqitous plastic grocery bags, for portable knitting bags, I have several totes, drawstring thingies, “weekend” bags. I like the idea of a diaper bag, but for the others, I have several inner bags, ranging from cosmetic bags (bought on sale or “freeby with purchase) in which I carry my tools, including tape measure(s), tapestry needles (in an altoid tin), travel wipes, hand lotion (small tube), emery board, nail clipper (it’s my thread cutter). I’ve bought several reuseable grocery totes, and Avon sometimes has sets of 5 bags, very useful for different needs.

I would love a “real” knitting bag, but haven’t found one in my price range yet.

When I yarn shop, I bring along some ziploc bags in different sizes (sandwich, medium, large and extra-large) so I can sort my yarns - ready to knit balls/skeins and “needs winding” skeins.

I love your collection Noreen - colour me green (but only a little bit!)
