Handbound Book with handspun paper crocheted flat doll
One thing always leads to another for me….
I’ve gotten so inspired with making
Today, I made a handbound with wooden board covers that are approximately 11 inches tall and 6 inches.
The doll is crocheted from tissue paper that I handspun.
Her wings are wooden ice cream spoons that were too charming to throw away.
The beads are ones that I made from rolled paper, for my book: Creative Crocheted Dolls.
And, the pattern for the flat doll came from Creative Crocheted Dolls, too.
The binding cord is spoo lknitted on a 2 peg spool knitter (Cordelia cord maker), with yarn that I spun and plied with some tweed thread.
Yesterday’s flat wire doll was crocheted from a pattern in my book:
Crocheted Angels, Babies and Other Sweethearts
(which is available from me) :D
The buttons have special memories for me. A few years ago, I was visiting a dear friend in Quebec City. We both love going to second hand stores, and so we visited her favorite one.
There was a huge bin of used buttons, and I picked out a handful of buttons that were covered in fabric. They felt really evocative to me. It seemed like each button had a story…… and so using them on this book makes the book special to me, because the buttons carry that ’story’ energy.
Now, I have a question for you……
A lady emailed me and asked me if I was going to sell these handbound books. My feeling is that I ~probably won’t~.
That is because I really love teaching workshops, and it’s really important to have inspiring examples in the class. So, at some point, I will probably offer this as a workshop. I’m working on more books! Will post more pics soon…..
hugs all round
Noreen
