Handbound Book with crocheted freeform doll

by Noreen on March 27th, 2007

A few days ago, I cut out and painted the wooden covers for this book:

The wild dancing alligator is a year or so old. I bought a key chain at the second hand store, that was all purple plastic beads. I took it apart, painted the head, hands, legs and tail, and gave the plastic purple pony beads (say that really fast!) back to the 2nd hand store :)

Then, I just started crocheting, and playing with the bits and pieces of the alligator, as well as some glass beads. I didn’t worry about making a pattern for it, as it’s one of a kind.

Ah, freeform crochet can be so relaxing!

Often, my crocheted, woven and spool knitted flat dolls will end up as embellishments on bags, or as part of shawls or vests. But, I am having so much fun making these books that an awful lot of them are going to be ending up on handmade, handbound books!

Oh, yes, to reclaim/recycle paper and make the pages for the book, check this link: Pages for books

The cord that holds the book together is spool knitted hemp.

Hope this will inspire you to make some handbound books, too!

hugs all round,

Noreen

    Hallo Jacqui!
No crocodile tears at all for the dancing alligator! ROTFLOL!
Someone else has asked me about selling these books, too, and I had originally said no. My reasoning was that I would like to have them as samples for teaching workshops. BUT… at the rate that I am producing them, I could soon fill the studio! :D And, I could have pics of the sold books at workshops…..
So, yes! we can certainly talk about you adopting the dancing alligator book!
