Geisha Shoes
Part two of friendship bracelets for adults will be posted later on today. I just had to share something that I came across yesterday though!
I went to the Royal Alberta Museum yesterday to see their new exhibit ‘Geisha to Diva’, which focuses on the life of the geisha & recording artist, Ichimaru.
There was an incredible collection of woven kimonos, mostly silk, hand-painted or embroidered. What really caught my eye was a pair of ‘zori’ (traditional thong/flip-flop shoes) covered with fine filet crochet. I almost thought it was bobbin lace at first, it was that delicate! I’ve tried to find a photo or an link with something similar on-line, with no luck. The crocheting had lasted well, for a pair of shoes that were 50 years old and had been worn!
It could be an interesting embellishment technique for a plain pair of store bought shoes. Wouldn’t that make a beautiful pair of summer slippers?
