Crocheted Wasp Be Gone Nest

I really don’t like wasps and yellow jackets. Who does? They are nasty little boogers.

Last summer, they stung the living daylights out of my husband while he was working in the hayshed. Yikes! evil little so and so’s.

BUT! I am really concerned about Colony Collapse Disorder in Bees (whom I love, as should we all). So, we want to keep the rotten little stinkin’ wasps away, without using pesticides that will damage the bees and birds and water and soil.

So, we were very hopeful when we found paper ‘fake’ wasp nests that are supposed to keep the wasps from setting up housekeeping close to places that you live and work.

Unfortunately, we only were able to buy a package of 2 of the fake nests. The good part of that is that the stores are sold out, so that means that lots of people are also buying them, too. Hopefully, this will diminish the amount of pesticides people use.

We need more than 2 of the ‘Keep away’ nests.

Jim’s strategy is to make papier mache fake nests.

My plan is to crochet some ‘Don’t Darken My Door You Rotten ‘Orrible Wasps’ nests.

I’ve started:

But I have to pull this out and start again, as the shaping is obviously off.

I’ve got it right now, and have  posted a pattern

AND, my daughter was inspired by my crocheted wasp be gone nest to design a sewn one!
