by Noreen on April 22nd, 2007

Happy Earth Day, and Happy almost Mother’s Day!

To celebrate the earth and Wow Moms, I have designed this crocheted string/market bag:

The instructions for making the handles are at

Round Bag Handles

NOTE: WORKING FILET CROCHET FROM CHARTS: by Noreen Crone-Findlay (copyright)

Each square represents one space in the filet lace. Open spaces are formed by crocheting one dc and 2 ch. Closed spaces are 3 dc, with one extra dc at the end of the series of closed spaces to close the last square.

When crocheting from charts, place a ruler on the chart covering the rows above the row that you are working on. When you finish row 1, slide the ruler up to reveal row 2, and so on.

Odd numbered rows are read from the right hand side to the left. Even numbered rows are read from the left to the right.

To increase at the beginning of a row, work 7 ch and then dc into the 7th ch from the hook or the top of the last dc.

To increase at the end of a row, ch 2 and then work a dtr (wrap the yarn around the hook 3 times, instead of the usual 2 in a normal tr and work one extra yo sequence) into the base of the last dc.

To decrease at the beginning of a row, work sl st across the st of the last row until you reach the place where you want to begin the next row.

To decrease at the end of a row, simply do not work the last space.
