Close up on the knot for handmade book
There are all kinds of ways of making the knots in the spool knitted cords that bind the handmade books that I’ve been talking about lately:
Here’s a closer look at a really simple way of tieing up the binding:
Starting at the center hole:
The darning needles are pointing in the direction that you’ll go with the spool knitters cord.
One end of the cord goes in the center hole, from the front to the back, and comes out at the top hole from the back to the front. The other end goes from the front to the back, through the bottom hole.
Take the top end under the ’stitch’
and through
and do the same thing on the back
Now, tie a knot and slide beads, buttons, charms, found objects, whatever….. onto the spool knitting cords, and then tie a knot in the end of the cord, and weave the yarn end up and into the cord. DON’T GLUE IT! You need to be able to slip the beads off and untie the knots if you want to add more pages later.
Enjoy!
