Organize that yarn

I’ve been posting about organizing yarn stashes
Here’s one of my most favorite book cases. It’s GREAT for storing yarn and stashes:

We found it at a garage sale. For FREE! The lady who owned it reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally hated it. (I didn’t ask why).
On the second shelf, I have a heap of yarn in wire baskets from […]

Three doors down - And three up!

The Three Doors Down project on b5 is so neat! It’s giving me a great excuse to enjoy some of  ‘blogging neighbours’ on b5.
Here’s a link that explains what the ‘3 doors down’ project is.
This morning, one of my neighbours UP the b5 blog list (Jennifer at De Clutter It) wrote a posting about hankering […]

Easiest EVER Knitted Angel

The ‘newspaper yarn’ has gone viral on the net…. everyone’s talking about it. Cyndi at Layers upon Layers has posted the link to it…. newspaper yarn
That inspired me to dig out my
‘Easiest Ever Knitted Angel’

I don’t like spinning tissue paper on […]

Cutting fabric strips to crochet and spoolknit:2: Simple Flower Motif to Crochet

The finished size of this simple flower motif is determined by the size of the hook that you use, and the thickness of thread, yarn or fabric strip. I came up with this on my own, but it is so simple that it probably has popped into other people’s minds, too.
You can also crochet it […]

The Sisterhood of the Travelling Crochet Hook:14: Blizzard!

Yesterday,

This was the view from my studio window….

Earlier, the snow covered the windows completely, so I was grateful when the wind whipped some of it away.

A very good day for the Sisterhood (and Misterhood) of the Travelling Crochet Hook to stay inside and fondle yarn!
brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
hugs all round

It’s waaaaaaaaaaaay colder than normal, but, it’s also really pretty……..

Tips on figuring out how to Substitute one yarn or thread for another

I’ve been getting a lot of questions from people, asking for help about how to substitute one yarn for another. They want to know if a different yarn than the one that is listed in a pattern will work or not.
Well, there are a couple of ways of figuring that out.
First one: WPI: Wraps Per […]

Spinning the silk for the crocheted butterfly wedding shawl on support spindles

I have been spinning up a storm!
I have been sampling on all my spindles, seeing which ones feel the best for spinning the silk for the crocheted butterfly shawl.

I love my top whorl spindles, but am having shoulder problems, so decided to focus on support spindles.
I did some serious experimentation with beads and tiny dowels […]

Sourcing Silk for spinning for the Crocheted Butterfly Shawl

People have been asking me for sources for silk to spin.
So, I did some looking on the web.
http://www.woolery.com/Pages/fibers.html#exotic
looks scrumptious, and they assured me that everything on the site is available.
And, when I wrote to Treenway Silks
http://www.treenwaysilks.com/fibres.html
I learned that not only do they have their splendiferous silks, but, there’s a great tutorial page:
http://www.treenwaysilks.com/inout_spinning.html
and they […]
