Woven “Earth Listener” Angel Doll

I’ve been working on weaving a new doll, and she is now finished.
I blogged about spinning the yarn for her, and making her head
I’ve decided that she is an ‘Earth Listener’ Angel Doll. She’s all about listening to what needs to happen next for our planet.
She’s made with many hand crafted and reclaimed components.
I’ve been […]

Weaving books I love

We’re downsizing like mad around here, but believe me, there are some books that I would NOT part with.
The weaving books that I can’t recommend highly enough and simply wouldn’t part with are:
Inkle Weaving by Helene Bress - it’s one of the best books  about Inkle weaving and luckily, it’s still available on the web.
Hands […]

Spinning yarn to weave a doll

I am working on a new doll.
I’ve finished sculpting the head:

and have finished spinning the yarn for the doll:
My best friend gave me a bag of lovely merino/tencel:

That I spun on my wheel, then plyed with my navaho spindle:

I warped up the loom
and wove one panel that just didn’t do it for me,

So, I […]

Journey Loom-1

I am so pleased! My new Journey Loom has arrived!

The Journey loom is a lovely small frame/tapesty style loom that was designed by Susan Barrett Merrill. The loom came to her in a dream and she’s been working with her husband to create it in many ways for a number of years.
The first thing […]

Memorial weaving-3

I’ve been immersed in weaving bands that are going to be part of a memorial for a woman I adored- my late mother-in-law. She was an amazing and delightful woman who was a joy and one of the dearest friends and greatest influences in my life.

I’ve written about it before - memorial textiles
For the last […]

Update on the Vesterheim Museum Cradle Loom

I’ve blogged several times about a small loom that I like a lot.
It’s the Vesterheim Museum Cradle Loom.

I’ve received letters from people, saying that they couldn’t find the loom on the Vesterheim site. So, I wrote to the Vesterheim folks and asked if the loom had been discontinued.
Good news! Here’s the response:
No, it has not […]

Memorial weaving-1

Awhile back, I posted about being asked by the Memorial committee at our church if I’d be interested in weaving banners and runners in memory of my darling mother in law.
It’s taken awhile to get all the details sorted and everything approved, but now things are on fast forward.
Turns out what the committee wanted was […]

Mending Socks - other small loom options

Recently, I posted about weaving small squares for mending the holes in our hand made socks.
Sadly, people have not been able to track down the Weavette folks to find the looms that I had been talking about.
I received some rather cranky notes about this. oops.
Happily, there are other craftspeople who have moved forward […]

Vintage no? new? yes!

I am passionate about small loom weaving.

I have a collection of vintage looms that I dearly love, including Lily Speed oWeave looms and Magic square looms.

Technically, they are not ~weaving~ looms. They are ‘hold your yarn in nifty patterns and go into an altered state of consciousness and tie rhythmically a sequence of interlocking knots’ […]
