I posted about these little tatted butterflies . I have been making them for the red shawl that I am working on for workshops I am teaching in the fall.
I noticed as I was photoshopping the pics that the butterfly wasn’t one of the new and revised ones. Ah well, the pics are […]

OH!!!!! I am just delighted! After reading my posting about Hinka Osinga’s spectacular crocheted model based on the mathematics of the Butterfly Effect, Kristi found the actual pattern for it!
I’ll never have time to do it, but I love it that now I COULD!
Here’s the pattern URL: Crocheted Mathematics of Chaos Butterfly Model by Hinka […]

Lately, there has been a lot of attention paid to crocheted mathematical models.
I am passionate about butterflies. I am constantly designing homages to them in crochet, weaving, knitting, (see yesterday’s entry for a knitted Butterfly Bag), spool knitting, tatting, sewing, you name it. The picture above is a butterfly that is part of a […]

Oh my word, I can’t believe how much work this bag has been! But, worth it! I just love it.
I decided that it needed a handle, so, I took 60 inches of 1/4 inch diameter acquarium clear plastic tubing, and stitched buttons on the ends.
and then, I worked about a million sc (single crochet) over […]

It feels like the butterfly bag needs to be stabilized, so I am cutting plastic needlepoint mesh into the shape of the front and back of the bag. I’ve cut out the lining, and will get the lining stitched, and then the bag itself.
I’ll slip the mesh between the lining and the bag after the […]

The first filler mesh for the Butterfly bag was a modified filet crochet mesh: Filet Mesh
I also really love using chain stitches to build the mesh to create the mesh.
You can either:
Join the yarn or thread to a motif or edge, and chain 5 or 7 and sc into the edge or motif (a few […]
