Tattted and crocheted butterfly shawl - yarn

I posted about these little tatted butterflies . I have been making them for the red shawl that I am working on for workshops I am teaching in the fall.
I noticed as I was photoshopping the pics that the butterfly wasn’t one of the new and revised ones.  Ah well, the pics are so cute […]

Happy tatted butterfly

I was so happy today to be able to say to my dentist:
“I really like you, but….
we’ve been seeing too much of each other.
It’s time for a break.”
She and her assistant both cracked up and we all merrily agreed that we are on a break. (we really have been spending waaaaaaaaaay too much time […]

Tatted and Crocheted shawl- new butterfly

I’ve been working away on a crocheted and tatted freeform lace butterfly shawl.
It’s been frustrating and challenging, because it just hasn’t been going the way I thought it should.
But! I have had a couple of breakthroughs that I am really pleased about.
The first is that I have finally settled on the thread that I am […]

What motifs move you?

On one of the email groups that I belong to, someone posed an interesting question about color combinations that really captivate us.  This made me think about the red shawl that I am working on… which is all about butterflies.
Which brought up for me that butterflies are, hands down, hooks up, my most beloved design […]

Crocheting in public then frogging at home

Yesterday, my husband’s jazz trio was playing at an outdoor art and design festival:

That’s my Beloved in  the green shirt.  Look at the sky through the scrim of the stage behind them……
When they started playing (and they were FABULOUS!) the sky was slightly overcast, but it was warm and pleasant.
BUT, as they began their second […]

In September, I’ll be teaching workshops in Portland OR at the Knit and Crochet Show
One of the demo pieces that I am making for several of the classes is a red ‘Butterfly’ freeform lace shawl that combines tatting and crochet…..
as it moves along, I’ll post more pics. This is the first…..
And here’s the  […]

Recycling Woven scraps -3- Butterfly shirt!

My last posting was about stitching the butterfly outline.

I stitched over the outline a couple more times. Then I pinched the fabric and started snipping ever so carefully….

All 4 wing sections needed to be snipped carefully away….
and then stitched again

I decided to spool knit cords to make it really pop ….  so,
I spool knitted a […]

Recycling Woven scraps -2

In my previous posting, I got started with reclaiming a woven scrap to embellish a Tshirt.

I drew a butterfly, then layered the drawing on top of the scrap of reclaimed weaving….

Next, I cut the excess weaving away, and pinned the drawing and weaving to the WRONG side of the Tshirt front.

Then, started stitching. I didn’t […]

Recycling Woven scraps -1

Recently, I posted about the Saori process of using scraps of weaving in appliqué.
It made me think about a scrap of weaving that’s been kicking around the studio for awhile. I cut it off a set of placemats that I wove several years ago, and couldn’t bring myself to throw it away. I thought…. […]
