Knitting bags-10

Okay, in my last posting , I said that I’d probably never make another one of these tricky monkey puzzle knitting bags…..

So, guess what we are doing right now?
Ironing brown paper!

Eh?
Yep… it’s time to make some templates……..

and iron some fabric and start cutting:

and pin pin pin pin pin pin pin

before I start stitching…. there’s […]

Knitting bags-9

I finished it!
I posted this morning after breakfast that I was going to do a proper template and all that, but I changed my mind.
I decided that the best way to carry on with the knitting bag was to stitch it together by hand.
So, I measured out two pieces of string to act as guides […]

Knitting bags-8

At the end of my last post,  I ran screaming from the studio.
Well, after a too brief’s night’s sleep, I jumped out of bed, and tore out all the misbegotten seams

I didn’t even make myself a cup of tea or have breakfast….
I think that was my first mistake……..
Okay…. so I figured……. I’ll clamp this beast […]

Knitting bags-6

In my last posting I showed how the frame for the knitting bag was coming together.
I was working like blazes all day on a couple of other projects that are taking a lot of attention. But, I was able to grab some time and after the paint dried on the frame, I sketched some frolicsome […]

Knitting bags-5

I got a coat of white paint onto the frame of the new knitting bag last night before bed,

and 2 more coats today….
Still need to sand it, then I want to do some drawing on it.
Will have to varnish it after that.
And then! oh my…. figuring out how to make the bag part.
I am going […]

Knitting bags-4

I sketched, and measured, and sketched some more.
It struck me: I never liked the lack of handles on my folding knitting bags. Why not add handles?
sketch sketch sketch……
And then, off to the workshop to cut out, sand, drill, sand, glue, hammer, sand……

I had a completely blissful evening in the workshop and am tickled pink with […]

Knitting bags-3

On the weekend, we were hanging curtains in Jim’s late Mum’s house. We’re getting it ready to sell, and one of the things that needed doing still was putting up the new curtains.
I was going to put Mum’s old bedroom curtains in the give away, and suddenly realized that I couldn’t bear to part with […]

How to carry anything without a bag

My daughter found a very kewl site!
Furoshiki is the Japanese art of carrying things with knotted fabric.  Brilliant!
I am a diehard bag fanatic: I love to design bags, I love to make bags, I collect bags…….
BUT even more important:  I’ve  been using handmade bags for decades to lug things around and have faithfully carried my […]
