A memory doll: PattyJoy for Mum
On Saturday, we had the celebration of my husband’s sister, Patty’s life. It was glorious. The music was simply celestial……..
it was a profoundly healing experience! Everyone came away feeling pure joy.
I asked Mum if she would like me to make her a doll of Patty, so she could have a huggable, holdable memory. Mum said, ‘Yes! please!’
So, I have asked Aleksa, beautiful ‘big sis’, to print our favorite picture of Patty, which we call the ‘PattyJoy’ picture, onto fabric. (She knows how to do that, and I don’t).
I asked Patty’s husband if he would bring me a piece of fabric from Patty’s sewing room, and this is one of the pieces:

I am going to use it to make a comfort doll for Mum……. here’s a rough sketch:

Patty had gorgeous red curly hair, so I will spoolknit orange yarn, and give her curls…..
I am going to put a heart shaped pocket on her chest so we can put little mementoes and notes for Mum in it………
and wings, of course…….
I hope that this doll will bring Mum a lot of comfort. Making her is going to be a joy for me. She’s made with love………
hugs all ’round
