Butterflies, butterflies! How to fold Origami butterflies: 1

My daughter is getting married this summer, and butterflies are figuring large in the motifs and decorations. I am tatting butterflies, crocheting them, spool knitting them, and even weaving them.
There are going to be origami butterflies in the air and on the tables…… but we couldn’t find a really great pattern for them, so we’ve […]

Butterflies, butterflies! How to fold Origami butterflies: 2

fold a square of paper in half diagonally

open it up and fold it diagonally again……

now fold across the middle, right side on the inside

squish the paper into this shape.
This gives you four points that are going to become the wings.

Butterflies, butterflies! How to fold Origami butterflies: 3

fold the point up, crease it hard

the lower wings need to be smaller than the upper wings,
so, reach into the folded point, and swing just the upper layer up and fold it flat

Still not looking much like a butterfly is it?
It will…..

Butterflies, butterflies! How to fold Origami butterflies: 4

fold down one lower wing

and the other…….

and snip a curvie line across the  the upper edge.
This will make the head stand out a little more, and the butterfly a little more natural…..

We’ll be making many a butterfly over the next few months-
thread butterflies, yarn butterflies, and paper […]

Wedding decorations: Origami Butterflies

We are making all manner of butterflies for my daughter’s wedding.
We looked all over to find quick and easy instructions on folding origami butterflies, but couldn’t make head nor tail of the ones we did find.  So we ditched them.
My daughter, her fiance’s mom, and I sat and fiddled and folded, and scratched our heads. […]

Christmas is over: Here come the weddings! Tatting butterflies

Whew! This has been the busiest Christmas of our lives!
It was wonderful - even though it had it’s painful moments as we cried over loved ones who have died in the last year - and, we also cried many joyful tears, too!
And, now, it’s into big time preparations for TWO weddings!
Our son and his fiance […]
