Portrait of A Goddess on a Spoolknitter: Oops!

Yesterday, I stopped Jim in his tracks.
He was walking through the studio and he was gobsmacked by the image on my screen.
‘WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT?!?!?!?!?!!’
And then, I started to laugh!
A friend, Pam of Dream Come True Farms (Pam! What’s your Url? I can’t find it!), had made a felted doll. The doll is an […]

Sister Bear: So many ways to make a teddy bear

Teddy bears are the embodiment of love.
There is so much pleasure in the making of bears.
I’ve been thinking a lot about ‘Sister bears’ (please scroll down through the blog to read more about ‘Sister Bears’)
and thinking that it would be wonderful to make the bear from scratch before starting the Sister Bear exchanging…..
A ‘Sister Bear’ […]

Weaving a wedding vest on narrow looms

Our daughter is getting married next September.
I am spinning silk and crocheting her the Butterfly shawl that I designed for the summer 2006 issue of Knit.1 magazine. I am also spinning and crocheting her a shrug for the wedding as well (for the supper and dance).
I’m spinning the yarn to make a […]

A lovely little treat: New Crochet Hooks

As a designer, I have to be able to work up my swatches and designs ‘on over drive’. So, it’s important that I have crochet hooks that are ‘really fast’.
I don’t know if I have switched something in my technique over the years, but lately, I have been finding that the fastest smoothest hooks for […]

A different kind of paper doll: The joys of reclaiming

When you think of paper dolls, you may not think of a doll that looks like this…..

This little angel doll really is a paper doll.
I took strips of tissue paper patterns that I was never going to use again, cut them into strips, and spun them with my supported spindle. Then I knitted this little […]

Tools for spoolknitting with the baler twine: Test driving different loop lifters

Our morning started with our beloved greyhound

walking into the dining room while we were having breakfast in the kitchen. He then did a ‘Linda Blair’ of epic proportions.
Holy smoke, greyhounds have astonishing fluid sharing capacity! Poor baby. Poor Jim……. I ran to get the window open to clear the air, expressing dismay and revulsion, […]

Weaving and Spoolknitting come together : A round chair seat cushion

I’ve had a couple of fun comments and thoughts about spoolknitting the baler twine for rugs….

Cyndi commented that Dora Renee was making good use of junk in knitting her rugs from baler twine…….
well……. yes and no…….
after all……. it’s not waste until we waste it :)
and, when I meantioned to Dora Renee that I […]

Puppets for Peace

Something that I haven’t talked about much on this blog is that I am a professional puppeteer. I am currently on a break from performing, as I got burned out by decades of intense one woman shows.
And, now, my daughter is a professional puppeteer, and we speak daily about how her shows are going…… chuckling […]

Spoolknitting Baler Twine: A great way to make a reclaimed/recycled rug

I hate wasting things. I love reclaiming and recycling, recovering, renewing, and all those good things.
So, when Dora Renee wrote about how she is using baler twine to make rugs by knitting them on a knitting rake, I cheered!
Here’s her URL:

We have 2 old Morgan horses,

(like all our animal companions, they are rescued). Anyhow, we […]

Inspiration in Nature

This morning, I was awestruck by the beauty of the patterns in the ice in this little frozen puddle in our driveway:

Doesn’t it look like a sock?
And, LOOK at those incredible swirls and twirls!
They look like engraved feathers!
One thing that doesn’t come through in the photo, is that the ice looked opalescent and frosty…….

The lusciousness […]
