Graph paper is a fantastic tool, as long as you can find the right size & proportion for your project!  I just recently came across this fantastic website for a free PDF graph paper generator.  All you need to do is type in your requirements, and voila!  Printable graph paper.

Flat Freeform Crochet Dolls: Making another kind of Paper Template

There’s another way to make the paper doll template to be the starting point for making a flat freeform crocheted doll.
Lay some household objects onto graph paper, making the shape of a person:
